Day Seven – A writer you don’t like
I can’t think of a writer I don’t like. There are writers who annoy me (sometimes reading blogs is bad, alas), but I can’t think one I don’t like. I’m drawing a blank on this. I mean, I might hate Look Homeward, Angel, but I know bupkiss about Thomas Wolfe, so how I can I not like him?
I’ll take it to mean a writer whose work you categorically don’t like.
And I’ll go with J.K. Rowling. I read the first six (6!) Harry Potter books, and they just kept getting worse and worse until I refused to read the seventh.
Ashamed I didn’t stop sooner.
I can’t believe you read six books in a series you hated. By book six, they’re not even slim throwaway length novels, either.
Masochist.
Alan Moore. The man’s work is just depressing.
Duly noted. I don’t think I’m familiar with his stuff (though I know his name… gah. Now I have to look him up).
Kevin J Anderson. he took my beloved Dune universe and turned it into cheap action pulp. I’m sure he’s a stand up guy, but I am a rabid Dune-head.
I’m actively avoiding the new Dune books. I’ve regarded them with great suspicion since the first one cropped up on shelves, and I refuse to dilute the series I enjoyed so much with books that don’t look like they contribute the universe at all.
I read the first new one, and part of the second. they’re just so NOT Dune! I don’t even know how many new ones are floating around anymore, and I too am actively avoiding them after one and half sips of the kool aid.
